Thinking of your technology as a colleague and determining where they fit in the organizational chart can help illustrate inefficiencies and gaps that you may not otherwise see.
Thinking of your technology as a colleague and determining where they fit in the organizational chart can help illustrate inefficiencies and gaps that you may not otherwise see.
Inspired by Nadjia Yousif’s TED talk, we considered the role that technology solutions can play and what that means for the employees who interact or manage the technology. In her talk, Nadjia shares an example of a new employee with a multi-million dollar contract, best in the business, who isn't really welcomed by coworkers - left out of meetings and not putting their skills to use. This new employee is the new software solution the company is paying for but may not be fully utilized. One solution is to include the technology on the org chart.
“Org charts are really cool because, if they are drawn well, you can quickly get a sense of what individual roles are and also how a team works well together. But if you look at a typical org chart, it only includes the boxes and lines that represent people. None of the technology team members are there.” - Nadjia Yousif
When included on an org chart, people can visualize their technologies as coworkers and determine if they are working well together. And just like employees who benefit from regular feedback and reviews, your tech can benefit from feedback and updates as well.
At Alacrinet, we've worked with clients to build and implement solutions that are often used by many of their employees. In one instance, our client invested in a custom application for their employees to rate their experiences - something that was deemed critical for employee satisfaction and retention.
Like hiring someone for a new role, developing this application required deep discussions about what would enable their current employees to perform better. And unlike others in their industry, who could not foresee the impact such an application could have on their employees, our client is seeing the positive impact of their investment.
Employee training enables them to be effective in their role within the company. And just like having experts train your employees on the latest trends in your industry or technology to support their tasks, your tech may need some ‘training’ as well. Training your tech can mean updating with new features, improving workflow process, and improving interactions with other technology.
At Alacrinet, we work with you to understand your environment, workflow, and challenges to help implement new solutions as well as tune existing software. Our team of developers and security architects have the skills and expertise to handle complex challenges that enable all your team members to work toward a strong security posture.
